Meaning:

Palllavi: Oh mother, if you do not take pity on me I have no other refuge. You are the one who lives in the chest of the lord of the whole universe.

Anupallavi: If a mother does not show kindness towards the child, will the child survive? You are the mother for all the beings in all the worlds.

CaraNam: You are the precious gem that came out of the milky ocean. You are prosperity personified. Please show your grace to me. For all the multi-talented poets, the sages who did lot of penance , and the celestials there is no relief if you do not take pity on them.

  1. This excellent song was composed by Papanasam Sivan for the picture “Sevasadanam”, featuring MSS. It was later adopted in concerts. GNB had also sung this piece elaborately in one of his concerts and D.K.Jayaraman, who was well known to bring in such film songs into concerts, was probably, the first to sing this in a concert.
