Thamizh Songs in Carnatic Music—32a --மனஸார மதி---manasAra mati

Thamizh Songs in Carnatic Music—32a
மனஸார மதி---manasAra mati
rAgam: sAramati (ஸாரமதி)       tALam: Adi (ஆதி)

Composer: tanjAvUr Sankara iyer

This is a short crisp song with a play on the words which flow in a natural way in the lyrics while incorporating the name of the rAgam (sAramati) interwoven between the words. manasAra means “with all your heart in a sincere mode”. The next word “mati” refers to the moon worn by lord Shva.  Thus “manasAra mati aNi” refers to lord Shiva who wears the crescent moon on his head.  The name of the rAgam “sAramati” is wedged between the words “manasAra” and “mati”.  The song is also very rhythmic. The composer is an ardent devotee of lord Murugan. He has composed most of his kritis on Murugan. Please visit

Anupallavi:  Never forget him even for a moment. Think about him all the time. The agent of death will not come near you.

CaraNam:  He is the nephew of tirumAl (Vishnu). He is more beautiful than the lord of love (Cupid a.k.a. Manmathan). He wields a spear over his chest. He is valorous. He will protect you if you keep him in your thoughts.
